Welcome to the Duffel Blog Press Pool! — Our new subscription option for Duffel Blog super-fans.
For a small fee, you’ll get Duffel Blog in the way it should be enjoyed: Completely ad-free, unobstructed by banners telling you that losing weight only requires ONE WEIRD TRICK. We’ll also add you to our private email list so you’ll always be the first to hear about what we’re working on next, among other perks which we will announce in the coming months.
Joining the Press Pool means joining a community and helping to directly support Duffel Blog’s mission of delivering “pitch perfect” satire to military members, veterans, and their supporters for years to come.
Wait… You want us to pay for this crap?
You may be wondering why. Why a subscription model? It’s pretty simple, really: Money. It takes money to consistently produce the great content you love, and to be able to pay the incredible 100%-military veteran team of contributors who write the words that give you a laugh over your morning cup of coffee.
Yeah, that’s right: Headlines like Mattis and girlfriend make plans to go out on Valentine’s Day, kill everyone they meet, or Bowe Bergdahl wanders off during court-martial don’t just fall off the magical headline tree (but if you find one on Craigslist, please let us know).
And despite what you may think, Duffel Blog is a one-man company. We don’t have corporate offices, secretaries, or even a business phone line. We only have one full-time editor who looks over submissions from more than 100 part-time contributors, schedules social media posts, and fixes bugs and other website errors, all on a shoestring budget.
This model has worked for a while, but it’s not sustainable. Internet advertising rates continue to go down every year, more people are using ad-blockers, and we both know you don’t want us to start hawking t-shirts like the rest of the veteran business community.
As Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in 2013, “Duffel Blog is a beautifully crafted response to an increasingly stuffy environment in today’s America. Duffel Blog reminds us of much of what we in the military fight for — the freedom to think our own way and to laugh about the absurdities without being mean-spirited.”
If you agree and want us to continue providing that “beautifully crafted response” — We need your help to make that happen. Please join us below. You’ll be glad you did.
