WASHINGTON, D.C. — Just hours after Marine Gen. Joseph 'Fighting Joe' Dunford was appointed as Commandant of the Marine Corps, the general uploaded a video to YouTube of him and his entire staff urinating on the career of former Commandant Gen. James Amos.
The footage shows a room full of uniformed infantry officers, including Dunford and Assistant Commandant Gen. John Paxton, urinating all over the career of the first and probably last Marine Corps aviator to serve as commandant.
"Have a great day, buddy," Dunford is heard saying in the now infamous video. In the background Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps Micheal Barrett is heard asking, "You got it on the video?" to which Dunford jokes, "Golden... like his aviator wings!"
The video, titled "Marines peeing on navy pilot" has already gone viral, prompting a sharp rebuke from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, who said it turned his stomach almost as much as the Heritage Brief.
"Defiling, desecrating, or mocking the career of a retired general is prohibited under the Uniform Code of Military Justice," Hagel said, "even if the individual in question lied to Congress on his resume."
In a nod to his predecessor, Dunford has already appointed a three-star general to investigate the incident, and promised to completely ignore any recommendations which do not fit with his predetermined conclusions.
Gen. Amos himself has not commented on the video, as he was spending his last Friday standing a farewell 'reawakening' barracks duty in his Service Charlie uniform.
Some officials worry the video will tarnish the public's image of the Marine Corps, although many have privately admitted it can't be as bad as any part of the entire Amos commandancy.
