PSYOPS to add another S to their name

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The Psychological Operations Regiment has constantly experienced change throughout its storied (and often classified) history. A new era has now begun, as the 1st Special Forces Command has announced that the shorthand iteration of Psychological Operations will now be spelled: SPSYOPS.

This is nothing new for the SPSYOPS Regiment.

The first of the modern Army Special Operations Forces (ARSOF) organizations to form at the beginning of the First World War, SPSYOPS initially went by a variety of different names within various organizations, eventually consolidating in 1952 as the U.S. Army Psychological Warfare Division (PWD).

The John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School was once named the Psychological Warfare Center and School when it was established in 1950, eventually establishing the Special Forces Training Group in 1962. Which SPSYOPS now understands was probably a mistake.
