Rush Limbaugh Calls Troops ‘Welfare Queens, Moochers’ Dick Scuttlebutt October 22, 2013 News 82 Comments Follow Duffel Blog: PALM BEACH, FL — From the upscale Palm Beach corporate headquarters of his Excellence in Broadcasting Network, right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh unloaded on America’s men and women in uniform, insinuating their motives as less than pure. The comments came during Limbaugh’s second hour on Monday. A caller had voiced support for President Obama’s signature Affordable Health Care Act, the crowning achievement of Obama’s administration thus far and a piece of legislation that conferred health care coverage on 40 million of the nation’s poor and middle class. When the caller identified himself as a retired Army Master Sergeant, and compared the AFA to the military’s free medical care for all servicemembers and their families, Limbaugh cut him off and began the controversial response. “You see, Master Sergeant,” began Limbaugh, rubbing his hands together, “you have exposed yourself. I thank you for the call — and I thank you for your service, I really do — but you’ve exposed yourself. Of course you like the idea of the government putting a band-aid on every little boo-boo you get, wiping your nose for you, giving you free prescription Advil when you could buy it at the drug store like the taxpayer, so on and so forth. You like that idea because you’ve lived with that your whole life. You said you joined the Army at 18. My guess is that before that, before you enlisted, you were on welfare. When you joined, you were essentially on welfare, because whether or not you ever go to war, you get free medicine, free food, free place to sleep, even free clothes to wear to work every day. The taxpayer even gives you years-long paid vacations to exotic foreign lands. I’m not saying you’re not appreciative, but when you’re used to people giving you free ice cream for forty years, if you suddenly have to pay for your own ice cream, you’ll understandably be upset. “You’ll also probably think, well—” and here Limbaugh inclined the intonation of his voice to imitate that of a child, “Mr. Limbaugh, if only everyone could have fwee ice cream, Mr. Limbaugh, then the world would be all sunshine and unicorns and happiness. The only problem,” continued Limbaugh, returning to his normal voice, “is that ice cream, folks, like health care, is not free. It is a product, created by a producer. And you have just as much a right to getting it for free as you have to getting ice cream for free. That is, you do not have a right to it for free. And if you believe otherwise, you are not a defender of the nation. You’re a welfare queen — or more appropriately, a welfare grunt.” Mr. Limbaugh then launched into a tangent on what he called the “distressing trend” he’s noticed in younger servicemembers to be supporters of the President. “It used to be, back when I was of age to serve, back in the Vietnam era, that soldiers were stout, upright, conservative young men. They were Southern. They voted Republican. Their wives stayed home and had babies and knew their place. Cooked dinner, had a highball waiting when the husband got home, so forth. But nowadays we have a new generation of young military youth — low-information voters raised on liberal propaganda like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers and PBS, what have you. Get their news from the drive-by media. They learned welfare, mooching, kumbaya and hand-holding from those sources. They learned mooching from an early age, folks. And even in uniform, still moochers. Can’t change a leopard’s….well, in this case, you can change a leopard’s spots, folks. But he’s still a leopard. Still a moocher. A little Obama jihadist, ready to march out and drone-attack American citizens in Yemen or Pakistan.” When reached for comment, Clear Channel Communications, which carries Limbaugh’s show on over 400 stations nationwide and dozens overseas, distanced itself from Limbaugh’s comments. “Clear Channel honors our servicemen and women and the great sacrifice they make every day to keep us free and safe. For that reason, we offer Rush Limbaugh’s show to them free of charge via Armed Forces Network in over thirty countries around the world. The views of one radio host, even one who accounts for over half of our ad revenue, do not in any way reflect the views of Clear Channel.” Carl Knipp says: May 20, 2014 at 9:41 AM “VACATIONS IN EXOTIC COUNTRIES”? I Wouldn’t call getting rockets, mortars and bullets fired at you on a weekly basis a vacation. I wouldn’t be interested in a “vacation” where you had to worry about getting blown apart every time you drove down the road. Rush Windbag is more of a “welfare queen” than any soldier. Soldiers get paid, very little I might add, for protecting this country and going where the politicians tell them to go. Rush Windbag gets paid to run his mouth. What service does he provide to this country other than causing more division in our political parties? What have you done Rush Windbag, that makes you so special? You have done NOTHING. You are nothing more than a mouth piece for political fanatics. Unless you have served in the Armed Forces Rush Windbag, you have no right to criticize those that have served, are serving or will serve. Until you ruck up and put BOOTS ON GROUND keep your mouth shut Windbag. And before anyone tries to call me an Obama supporter let me say I voted against Obama and I believe Obama is the worst thing to ever happen to this country. People like Rush Windbag are no better. The butthurt flows deep and bloody on both sides on this one. The best part are the satire-truthers who continue even after being told it’s satire. Top 5 All-Time DB article worthy of printing and framing. Karen Jacobson says: January 3, 2014 at 2:54 AM Unfortunately (or not), this is believable. I expect Rush to do this rant for real some day. We are all freeloaders. Dana Seilhan says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Hey, it took me getting to the bottom of the article and the description of the writer to know this was satire, though I was a little confused because last I knew, Rush seemed to be pro-military. Now, however, if you see a bunch of liberals come over here and get angry about this, stop and think about that. Because more of us respect the military than a lot of you want to believe. We just prefer to not see the lives of our servicemembers wasted so that corporations can make extra profit. If anyone doesn’t need to be on the welfare tit, it’s Exxon. Naimad Ollebarac says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Dude, I get that your jaded and all, and yes, it fits the kind of smug, off-hand, back-handed style of Limbaugh from days when I used to listen to him…but here’s the thing that irks me…I’m out there, raising hell on people who have legitimately boned the dog and trying to make things right and fight the good fight, and when I see people playing the farce game and cutting a bit too real on something that is a real big issue, is a real big problem, and the story is actually BS, then it cheapens the efforts to combat the real problem, because idiots like Rush and others will hop on that false crap and make hay on it….I get that your frustrated, and yes, it was an amazingly believable story in many ways, but please stick to either obvious satire or true stories… Robert DeLalio says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Nothing but a big lie, he was talking to the low life sleaze bag free loading liberal on the other end of the phone who claimed to be retired from the army and since he already lied about himself just to get to speak with Rush in the first place how can any sane person place any credibility in anything else he says. To try to portray this lying left wing scum as representing the entire armed forces is reprehensible. I’m retired from the military and he doesn’t represent me. He needs to realize the people he is talking about, are the ones fighting to protect his freedom to run his fucking cock holster. ‘Merica!!!! Bill Hilton says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Monday? As in the day before this post? Yeah, right. Rush said a lot on Monday, Oct. 21. HE HAD A GUEST HOST THAT DAY! Mark Steyn was guest hosting on Monday! The only time you heard Rush’s voice was during pre-recorded commercials. But don’t let facts like that get in the way. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2013/10/21/ Michael Thal says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Maybe it’s just me. But I think good satirical writing should not only be humorous but should also contain some lines that are so far over the top the reader (perhaps all readers) are aware that it’s tongue in cheek. Otherwise it goes viral as representing the truth. I would argue that in this case no one wins. Taff Hughes says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM I know this is a piss-take, but hasn’t that lard-arse come out with something as crass as this for real? http://armyofdude.blogspot.co.uk/2007/09/real-deal.html Merl Allen says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM hahahaha. Rob Slater says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM The only people who hate Rush or make sweeping generalizations about him don’t listen to his show. They get him in small soundbites and regurgitate old news. At least the author did writing this one because the tone is spot on, but the story is not plausible or funny. Joe Slattery says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Brb, grabbing a bowl of popcorn so I can enjoy this show… Scott Boyle says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM From the About tab above: “We are in no way, shape, or form, a real news outlet. Everything on this website is satirical and the content of this site is a parody of a news organization. No composition should be regarded as truthful, and no reference of an individual, company, or military unit seeks to inflict malice or emotional harm. All characters, groups, and military units appearing in these works are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, or actual military units and companies is purely coincidental.” Y’all are a bunch of idiots. Harold Hanley says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Yes, well this was some tender ground to tread on. But no one respects our troops more than Rush does, I’m quite certain. But if you read this conversation over, it sounds as though someone who CLAIMED to be a serviceman(maybe he was) was the one who tried to equate military life as a form of welfare. He might very well been one of those guys who joined up for the wrong reasons. Rush did use the word “enlisted” to describe this man. Then he zeroed in on this lackey…..as if to say, “It’s guys like YOU who not only destroy society in general, but also our military.” He goes on to say: “You said you joined the Army at 18. My guess is that before that, before you enlisted, you were on welfare. When you joined, you were essentially on welfare, because whether or not you ever go to war, you get free medicine, free food, free place to sleep, even free clothes to wear to work every day.” Draftees and enlistees both had their share of assholes as I’m sure you recall. Can we just say for now that Rush was just separating the men from the boys in this particular exchange? How dare this nincompoop compare our troops to welfare kings and queens! Rush was addressing him only, and not our loyal troops by any means. This is the way this man/soldier sized up our military. The type who walks the line so he can stay in his own military “welfare heaven” as he prefers it to be for his own purposes. Rush also said “You have been exposed”, as he most assuredly was, when he opened his big sewer of a mouth! This line of conversation can be misread and amplified for certain purposes. Happens constantly. The type we all see here is another misguided scumbag in uniform. We have also seen the rise of Chicago and big city street gangs in our military. We might not know that ourselves. But the ones who are there now sure know it. Same as the ones who went to Vietnam knew what was what in Vietnam. If you weren’t there, you just don’t know what they who were there know and won’t forget. I intend to send this letter to that source who published this story; that duffelbag group, or whoever, and ask them to take another look at Rush’s comments. And maybe they will see that what Clear Channel means is that they don’t subscribe to this or maybe any OTHER of Rush’s comments, or that of any other radio personality they sponsor. If they do, then they might see Rush’s comments from that of an insider who is always in defense of our military, our way of life, and the American dream all rolled into one. There is no one who can say the opposite if they truly listen to the show. One thing I will say is there are those who may not like certain things about Rush Limbaugh’s certain style. But hardly anyone can disprove the information coming out of this and any other show like it. If they could, Rush couldn’t have lasted as long as he has. Rush also happens to be a showman. And no liberal radio host has been able trump the ratings of shows like Rush’s. There are few of them even out there, if you want to know the truth. AM 820 doesn’t hold a candle to a station like WLS. But that’s where you have to go for “Progressive Talk Radio” in our broadcast area. I’ve been thinking about the Limbaugh hoax topic. You know, the one where this past Monday he supposedly called people in the military moochers. The initial posts were so compelling that I thought maybe Rush was losing it. But then I thought… he wasn’t there on Monday. So I went to this blog. And read. And it sounded awful. I was perplexed. Was Rush actually losing his mind? I mean, many of our highly respected liberals were totally on board with denouncing Rush for saying these things. Not all, and not even the most liberal among our members, but enough to make it concerning, because I like Rush. I listen to his show when I can and though I don’t agree with everything he says, I like him. And he never disses the military. Never. So I read the entire blog entry and at the end there are little adverts for other articles on the duffelblog. Well, once I read another entry, I realized it was a satire site and had totally fooled many of our members. How is that possible? Our liberal members are all pretty smart. I respect them. In fact, on few issues, they have actually caused me to question my position on some issues and I eventually changed my thinking on several issues. So how could well meaning, patriotic and intelligent liberals here fall so easily and so hard for a satire? well, it has to be because they wanted to believe what the satire was saying was true so badly they accepted it without question. The very people who are the children of those who started the “Question Everything” movement that is a mainstay of liberals’ beloved concept of progressive politics no longer were willing to even lift a finger to mouse-click to check other articles on the blog. These people have been brainwashed. Even our beloved Aantares creator and administrator fell hook, line, sinker and priming cap. Primed for blind following of totalitarian control. This is how the German people were able to be convinced Jews were bad. In the breast of many on the left, beat hearts of tyrants. Virtual beasts in vitro. And now… you can’t hide them anymore. David Morris says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM flush Rush Dusty Larson says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM I know it’s satire, but for all of the haters out there claiming the military is some easy street path in life where everything is taken care of for you, I think the vast majority of military members would be staying in beyond one or two enlistments. Lots of servicemen were radicalized by fighting in Nam. Many got on drugs in Nam. Many of those families started then with the wife who “knew her place” have long ago dissolved in divorce. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we’re not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. Spencer Dawson says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Grabs a seat. I didn’t read the article. I’m just hear to watch the comments from idiots who don’t know what satire is. David Rosner says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM I know this is satire… however, the best satire always contains a grain of truth… I am a Navy Vet, and on Veterans day 2010, I had a TeaBag tell me that I was “lying about my military service, because Liberals are too cowardly to serve”… Larry Baxley says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM rush is a draft dodger during the war what a pig and a drug user “pain pills ” what a suck ass Lawrence Mintz says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Rush Limbaugh is an anal retentive fat drug addicted viral mutant wart hog who loves wallowing in his one excrement. May he be cursed with bleeding hemorrhoids that he can never get relief from!!!! Michael Hasbun says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM THis MIGHT be satire…. not sure…. it sounds like him… Andrew Lavalley says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM This is satire you idiots… It’s really people like Bill Mayer on hbo who talk like this Carl Beutler says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM This is great. Limbaugh’s style is dead on, I can imagine him losing it like that, and being in the Army is like getting so much government cheese. James W. Carter says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Rush nailed it this time. The military are a bunch of socialized robots, matching in lock step to their commanders orders, living off the tax paying private sector, living in their little communes, doing nothing but destroying government and private property and life. It’s time somebody spoke up. And nobody knows better than Rush what it’s really like to be in the military. Karen Pointer says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM Satire or not he is a Vietnam draft dodging crybaby because he couldn’t handle the pain of the pilondial cyst on his ass. Either way I cant stand the guy. Juan R. Ulloa says: December 15, 2013 at 6:23 PM This is typical Limbaugh rambling assumptions and innuendos. This is the person conservatives listen and look up to. An individual who is a college dropout, drug addict and divorced three times, and probably more to come. I guess this is the new conservative American values, He was after all touted by President Reagan as championing Republican and conservative principles. Rush Limbaugh makes 50 million dollars annually, while contributing nothing of value to society. I wonder what has he done for his country. He probably only went to college to avoid the draft during the Vietnam war and had to drop out because he flunked all his courses. I wonder if he realizes that we who serve our country whether for economic or for patriotic reasons, pay taxes, endure low pay, great hardship and some even pay the ultimate sacrifice by dying for their country. I probably pay more percentage of my government retirement income in taxes than Limbaugh does. I am sure Mr. Limbaugh will say that he is paying what the law allows, but he is not clamoring to have the law change so he could pay a more equitable share of America’s needs. It is shameful and an insult for Mr Limbaugh to make disparaging remarks at soldiers who receive the benefits of their sacrifices. Why is it that he does not realized that if it wasn’t for the sacrifices of these service men and women, he would not be as free espousing venomous garbage. He makes a living ( a killing, 50 million dollars), making disparaging remarks about others he perceives as liberal, with the support of mostly poor and ignorant listeners espousing venom which actually just re-enforces what they already belief. It is sad that many Americans, who consider themselves christian and are concerned about family values, support this type of radio show. I guess they need someone to reinforce their epistemic arrogance. By listening to his radio show, they are supporting big corporations to sponsor a one man radio show which pays 50 million dollars annually to spread garbage instead of hiring those Americans looking for a decent job to support a family. Money paid to Mr. Limbaugh radio show adds no value to the economy, in fact it is probably draining the economy. Mr. Limbaugh, these retired service members have done a lot more sacrifices for America than you’ll ever hope or willing to do. You are the leech! Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!
