Air Force Global Strike Command Gen. Timothy M. Ray caused a stir recently when he called the US Army’s vision to become an “all domain” force, which includes a long-range strike capability that rivals the Air Force, “stupid.” 

The vision, outlined in a white paper entitled “Army Multi-Domain Transformation: Ready to Win in Competition and Conflict,” is being championed by Army Chief of Staff Gen. James C. McConville. Gen. Ray has agreed to spell out his points as to why the Army’s vision is stupid, and Gen. McConville will reply with his counterpoints.

Point: Each service is dedicated to mastering the unique challenges of their respective domains, and the Air Force has, over the course of decades, developed long-range strike capabilities that serve the entire U.S. military. The Army’s proposed vision is not only wasteful and unnecessary, it’s just stupid.

Counterpoint: Your mom is wasteful, unnecessary, and stupid. I mean, really stupid. And she mastered that pretty damn fast.
