General wakes up in middle of the night wondering if he left troops in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON — Gen. Austin “Scott” Miller, the former top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan, woke up startled at approximately 2 a.m. last night, worried that he might have left his troops in Afghanistan.

“No. I definitely pulled them out of there. I’m sure of it,” Miller said, patting down his pajama pockets for a manning roster. “There’s no way I forgot to do that.”

Sources close to the general say that ever since he left the oven on at the Fort Benning Officer’s Club after a chili cookoff in 2002, Miller has been extremely cautious and always does a mental checklist before leaving home.
