America's Most-Trusted Military News

Write for Duffel Blog

We're looking for veterans, active-duty service members, and military-adjacent humans who can write satire sharp enough to make a sergeant major file an IG complaint.

If you've ever written something funny about the military — or thought about it while sitting through a mandatory safety brief — we want to hear from you.

What We're Looking For

Duffel Blog publishes military satire in the style of The Onion. Our best writers understand military culture from the inside — the absurdity, the bureaucracy, the dark humor that gets you through a deployment.

You don't need professional writing experience. You do need to be funny. If your barracks stories make people laugh until they cry, you're probably qualified.

We're especially interested in writers who can:

  • Write convincing fake news headlines that hit like real ones
  • Capture the voice of official military communications (and twist it)
  • Find the absurd in everyday military life
  • Turn a 3 a.m. barracks thought into a publishable article

Before you apply, read our Style Guide to understand how we write.

A note on timing: We review every application, but we're a small team and sometimes it takes us a while to get back to people. If you don't hear from us right away, don't be discouraged. We may reach out weeks or even months later when we're ready to bring on new contributors.
